Yellow Submarine
Whales above and below the surface
A different way to approach the world of the southern right whale in the protected waters of Península Valdés.
From US$ 230
The experience
The adventure begins in Puerto Pirámides, where we board Yellow Submarine, a semi-submersible vessel specially designed for southern right whale watching. Once underway, we can move freely between two spaces offering completely different perspectives. From the open deck, we enjoy traditional surface viewing, watching whales breathe, travel or linger near the boat. But the defining feature of this experience lies beneath our feet. Down in the underwater cabin, 40 viewing windows allow us to watch whales while they remain submerged close to the vessel. The sensation is similar to observing them on a dive, without having to enter the water. For approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, we may alternate freely between the deck and cabin while a specialist guide accompanies the navigation and introduces us to the behavior and characteristics of these giants of the South Atlantic. Departure always depends on navigation conditions. On the day of the activity, the captain assesses whether conditions are suitable for safe whale watching.

The place
The experience departs from Puerto Pirámides, a small coastal village on Península Valdés, approximately 100 km from Puerto Madryn. Its waters are a privileged setting for southern right whales during their breeding season and Puerto Pirámides is the peninsula’s only authorized port for boat-based whale watching.
Why we love it
Because it completely changes the way whales are observed. In addition to classic viewing from the deck, the underwater cabin reveals them below the surface, exposing movements and behaviors normally hidden from a conventional boat.

Recommendations
Advance booking is essential, as indicated by the operator. The experience operates during southern right whale season and is subject to the day’s navigation conditions. Guests staying in Puerto Madryn should note that transfer to Puerto Pirámides is not included and must be arranged separately.
Restrictions
Please inquire in advance for further information.
Weather policy
Departure is subject to weather and navigation conditions. On the day, the captain determines whether conditions are suitable for the experience to operate safely. If the semi-submersible whale-watching trip cannot operate, the operator states that the whale-watching portion will be refunded. Port closure also means cancellation of navigation services and refund of the booked whale-watching service. As the whales are free, wild animals, sightings or specific behaviors cannot be guaranteed, and lack of sightings does not entitle guests to a refund.
