Adventure

From US$ 120

The experience

From Nunatak refuge, the hike begins across peat bogs, streams and ancient lenga and coihue forests. There is always a chance of spotting foxes, condors and beavers. Laguna Esmeralda lies in the heart of the Tierra del Fuego Natural and Scenic Reserve. The color of its waters and its setting deep in the Fuegian mountains invite a pause on the shore for rest and lunch. The return to the refuge follows a different route before the transfer back to the hotel. IMPORTANT NOTE: Passengers must wear suitable clothing, including a waterproof jacket, warm layers, backpack, trekking boots and trekking pants.

The place

Laguna Esmeralda is located in the Valle Tierra Mayor Natural and Scenic Reserve, approximately 20 kilometers from Ushuaia. The trail crosses ancient lenga and coihue forests, peat bogs, streams and mountain landscapes before reaching the lagoon, set in the heart of the Fuegian range. Its characteristic green color comes from sediments carried by the Ojo del Albino Glacier.
