The experience
The day begins early in the morning with pick-up from your accommodation in Puerto Madryn or Puerto Pirámides. There is no fixed departure time, as the day’s logistics adapt to weather, season and wildlife activity. Our first stop is El Desempeño, the access control point for the Península Valdés Protected Natural Area, where the reserve entrance fee is paid. We continue to the Carlos Ameghino Isthmus Interpretation Center, an ideal introduction to the landscape we will explore throughout the day. Here we learn about the peninsula’s history and geography, see a southern right whale skeleton and enjoy panoramic views of both gulfs and Isla de los Pájaros. The route then reaches Puerto Pirámides, a small seaside village on Golfo Nuevo. From mid-June to mid-December, this is the only authorized point on the peninsula for boat-based southern right whale watching. The cruise is optional and at additional cost; its schedule is coordinated the day before according to weather and operating conditions. Outside whale season, this time is used to explore the coast, enjoy the beach or have lunch in Puerto Pirámides. We then head back into the peninsula to continue the coastal wildlife circuit. The exact route adapts to the time of year and may include areas such as Caleta Valdés, Punta Norte, Punta Delgada or Punta Pirámides, seeking the best available observation points that day. From mid-September through the first days of April, penguin season is also underway. At Caleta Valdés we can follow the boardwalks to observe the Magellanic penguin colony during nesting and chick-rearing season. Depending on the season, we also visit areas inhabited by elephant seals and sea lions. After the visits, we return to our accommodation.

The place
Península Valdés, on the Atlantic coast of Chubut, is a territory where vast expanses of steppe meet cliffs, gulfs and beaches of the Argentine Sea. Its geography creates privileged environments for marine and terrestrial wildlife, including breeding and resting areas for southern right whales, Magellanic penguins, elephant seals and sea lions, among other species. The route crosses different areas of this protected landscape, including the Carlos Ameghino Isthmus, Puerto Pirámides and wildlife sites selected according to the time of year.
Why we love it
Because Península Valdés changes with the seasons. The route is not limited to a single point: it crosses the peninsula, helps you understand its geography and approaches different free-ranging wildlife colonies. Depending on the time of year, whales, penguins, sea lions and elephant seals may accompany the journey, giving each visit a different character.

Recommendations
Wildlife in Península Valdés is free and wild, so its presence, location and behavior cannot be guaranteed. The route adapts by season to make the most of observation opportunities. During visits it is essential to keep your distance from animals, leave no waste and remain only on authorized trails and areas. If you wish to take the whale-watching cruise, we recommend booking it together with the excursion so the navigation schedule can be coordinated correctly with the overland route. The final boat time is set the afternoon before according to weather and operating conditions.
Restrictions
Suitable for all ages. Minors must travel with a responsible adult. Child safety seats or boosters available on prior request.
Weather policy
The excursion is subject to weather, road conditions and applicable authorizations. In adverse conditions, the operator may reschedule the time or day, or partially modify the itinerary to preserve group safety. If weather, tides or impassable roads require the route to be shortened or changed, the operator states that no refund applies. If an additional whale-watching cruise has been booked and is cancelled due to weather or port closure, the amount corresponding to the cruise is refunded, but not the value of the overland excursion. Wildlife observation also cannot be guaranteed, and the absence of a particular species during the excursion does not entitle guests to a refund.
