The experience

The experience combines Tierra del Fuego’s landscapes with a small-group navigation from Puerto Almanza toward Isla Martillo. The small boat allows close, respectful observation of the colony from the water, without landing. It is an intimate experience shaped by the quiet of the channel and southern wildlife.

The place

The navigation departs from Puerto Almanza, a small fishing community on the Beagle Channel, and heads toward Isla Martillo. The setting combines subantarctic forests, mountains and southern waters; penguins are always observed from the boat.

Why we love it

Because the small boat and reduced group size create a more intimate and close encounter with the penguins. The overland journey also reveals the valleys, forests and mountains of eastern Tierra del Fuego.

Accessibility

The experience requires boarding and leaving a small boat, whose movement may increase depending on Canal Beagle conditions. It is not fully adapted for wheelchair users or guests with reduced mobility; they should consult in advance to assess boarding conditions and available assistance. Guests with balance problems, back conditions, frequent motion sickness or any medical condition should inform the operator before booking.

Recommendations

Dress in layers and bring warm clothing year-round, as the perceived temperature on the water is usually lower than in Ushuaia. Guests must report to the operator's office at the stated time; the exact address and meeting instructions are confirmed in advance by WhatsApp. We recommend having breakfast or lunch before departure, depending on the time slot, since meals are not included. Guests prone to motion sickness should seek professional advice on appropriate preventive measures. Indicative schedules: first departure—office check-in 10:00, navigation from Puerto Almanza around 12:00, return to Ushuaia around 15:00. Second departure—office check-in 13:00, navigation around 15:00, return around 18:00. Timings are tentative and must be reconfirmed.
